How to Save Money on Your Kitchen Remodel

It’s no secret that renovating a kitchen requires large investments of both time and money. For those who can’t fit a full remodel into their budget, don’t worry! We have a few tricks up our sleeves that can help cut the expenses practically in half, so you can completely recreate your kitchen without emptying your wallet.

  1. Stay Economical with your Cabinets
Cabinets are by far the biggest expense you will face when remodeling. Many people prefer to invest in quality by purchasing semi-custom, or even fully custom, cabinets. However, while we recommend it if your budget allows, aim to avoid too many customizations to achieve a lower-cost renovation.
Fabuwood’s Allure line offers superior quality and value, achieving a high-end appearance without breaking the bank.
  2. Don’t Reconstruct your Layout
Don’t immediately resort to breaking down walls and uprooting counters. It’s not always necessary to take everything apart and start over. Oftentimes, your kitchen layout can be smoothly encompassed in the new design, which prevents needless spending.
  3. If You’re Handy around the House, Why Not DIY?
Enough small service fees will eventually add up to a large sum which could be easily avoided by DIYing some simpler tasks. For example, painting the walls, laying out a tile backsplash, replacing light fixtures and/or sinks, etc. Of course, this is only viable for those who know their way around a toolbox, but hey, you can always try to find a family member to help out.
  4. Material Matters
In various areas of kitchen remodeling, costs heavily depend on the chosen materials. In those cases, the solution to exhausted funds is to just buy budget-friendly.
Countertops: Some more affordable countertop options include laminate, concrete, tile, butcher-block, and stainless steel.
Hardware: Affordable hardware materials include ceramic, wood, and plastic.
Flooring: Some more affordable flooring options include vinyl, laminate, ceramic, linoleum, cork, and concrete.
Backsplash: A more affordable backsplash option is peel-and-stick, easy to DIY.
  5. Appliance Advice
As the base of kitchen productivity, appliances are a major part of any kitchen renovation. They can rack up your total to some hefty figures if you're not careful. Thankfully, there are two highly effective ways to prevent that.
Refurbish, don’t Replace: One good option is to refurbish your old appliances instead of exchanging them for new ones. Start by repairing and replacing any broken parts, then complete the like-new impression by refinishing the exterior.
Buy Budget-friendly: If buying new is unavoidable, settle for economically priced, low-tech, and quality products. Try to find appliances that will provide long-lasting function without overwhelming your budget.
  6. Think Economically
Renovating can be an expensive commitment, but it doesn’t have to be. By implementing some, or all, of these tricks, you can create a beautiful new space at half your original cost estimate. Don’t let a small budget limit your big dreams. We can’t wait to see what you can do!
