The gravity of the edge: Why Florida felt like a private dinner party (with better lighting)

In the design world, "the edge" is usually a conceptual boundary - the limit of what’s possible.

In the design world, "the edge" is usually a conceptual boundary - the limit of what’s possible. But at Design Edge Florida this past March, held under the soaring glass canopies[SM1] [NM2] of the Gaylord Palms, the edge was something you could actually run your fingers over.

Design Edge Florida was a summit of the industry’s most restless minds. For us at Fabuwood, it was a chance to prove that interior and design aren't just about beautiful sketches; they’re about the mechanical soul of the home.

1. Radical collaboration (and real talk)

Design is a team sport, and we played on a stacked roster. Between huddles with the visionary Adalay Interiors, whose booth featured Fabuwood cabinetry as a testament to wellness-focused design, we shared the floor with giants like Vanguard Furniture, Hudson Valley Lighting Group, and Wendover Art Group.

Why does cabinetry usually feel like the "boring" part of a furniture order? We’re changing that. We spent the event talking to furniture brand owners to ensure our cabinets speak the same high-fashion language as a $10,000 statement sofa.

2. The "tactile library" & the 45-degree lean

We brought our A-game to the display floor, but the real star wasn't a person, it was a wall. Our sample wall became a high-traffic zone for designers who are tired of "flat" aesthetics.

  • The micro-shaker movement: Our new Echo door style in Timber is essentially a love letter to geometry. Its slim rails offer a verticality that feels architectural yet effortless.

  • The Desert Oak dialogue: Luna in Desert Oak is a rift-cut white oak finish that captures that "New Organic" energy without the nightmare of inconsistent grains.

  • Truffle is the new black: We’re officially calling it. In the Galaxy and Luna lines, our Truffle finish provided a masterclass in quiet luxury: grounded, earthy, and expensive looking (without the "expensive" lead times).

3. After hours: The NKBA

On March 26th, the energy migrated from the convention center to our Florida showroom for an evening hosted by the NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association). The night was a testament to the "team sport" of design & interiors.

  • The takeaway: Designers don't just want a product; they want a straighter line from concept to completion. At Fabuwood we are so proud to offer that.

Questions to ask during your next project

  • Is it "grain-perfect"? If your oak doesn't look like it was kissed by the sun (see: Desert Oak), is it even oak?

  • Can your manufacturer keep up? A bold vision is useless if it’s sitting in a shipping container for six months.

  • Are you leaning into the "new organic"? Textures should demand to be touched. If a client doesn't want to pet their cabinets, keep looking.
